Marudhamalai: a temple town at the foot of the Western Ghats

Marudhamalai is best known for its hilltop Murugan temple, one of Coimbatore's most visited pilgrimage sites, at the foot of the Western Ghats on the city's western edge, beyond Vadavalli. The steady stream of pilgrims supports the shops along the temple road.

Beyond the temple area, the foothills offer farmland and weekend-home plots for buyers drawn to the cooler climate and the hills.

Getting around

Marudamalai Road runs through Vadavalli into the city, about 13 km from Gandhipuram: around 30 to 40 minutes by road, depending on traffic.

Much of the land around is farmland or on the edge of the forest, so services thin out quickly beyond the temple road. Allow for that in any home or farmhouse plan.

What's for sale

Commercial plots on the temple road serve the pilgrim trade (shops, eateries and lodging), and their value depends directly on visitor numbers.

Further from the temple, farmland and larger plots attract buyers looking for a weekend farmhouse or a long-term farm investment. Check the water for any plot, as it varies across the foothills.
