Siruvani Dam Road: Coimbatore's scenic water-supply route

The Siruvani Dam Road runs west from Perur through the Boluvampatti area towards the Siruvani reservoir, which supplies much of Coimbatore's drinking water and is often praised for its taste.

The cooler foothill climate, the forest-edge scenery and the reservoir have long made it a favourite weekend drive, and a popular place to buy farm land or a weekend home.

Getting around

Depending on how far along the road you go, it's about 45 minutes to an hour from central Coimbatore, through Perur and Boluvampatti.

Beyond the main road, services are limited: this is a water-catchment and scenic route, not a residential suburb.

What's for sale, and the catchment limits

Mostly farm land, often coconut and other plantation crops, plus a smaller, active market in larger plots sold for weekend farmhouses.

Much of the corridor is in or near the Siruvani reservoir's catchment, so building and land-use restrictions can apply to particular plots. Check the specific plot before you buy.

Legal checks for Siruvani Dam Road land

Before you buy, confirm with the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board or the local revenue office whether the plot falls within the Siruvani catchment protection zone, which can restrict building.

For farm land outside any restricted zone, check the Chitta and Adangal records, trace the title through parent documents for at least 30 years, and get an Encumbrance Certificate before you pay anything.

What to check

  • Check with the local revenue office whether the plot is in the Siruvani catchment protection zone.
  • Check the Chitta and Adangal for classification and cultivation history.
  • Check how close the land is to reserved forest near the reservoir.
  • Get a 30-year Encumbrance Certificate from TNREGINET.

Common questions

Can I build a house on any farm land along Siruvani Dam Road?
